DeepSurface Security Announces $1 Million Funding For the Launch Next-Gen Enterprise Vulnerability Management System
Today, DeepSurface Security has announced $1 Million in funding for the launch of Predictive Vulnerability Management, the industry’s first automated suite of tools.
For the past year, the company has been in beta with several large SaaS, healthcare, and financial services businesses. This allowed its cybersecurity teams to automate the manual and imprecise process of analyzing and prioritizing vulnerabilities on networks.
The company is led by Cascade Seed Fund and joined by SeaChange Fund and Voyager Capital. It will use these funds for the public release of their product in Q4 and expand their team in Portland.
Complex cloud computing and IoT software vulnerabilities have accelerated over the past few years. These vulnerabilities affect the integrity, stability, and reliability of a product.
While vulnerability scanners can identify some vulnerabilities on an enterprise network, cybersecurity staff still have to manually sort through the flagged vulnerabilities to identify the most important to patch first.
At the same time, cybersecurity professionals have outstripped supply which has created a critical cyber-security skills gap and talent shortage.
DeepSurface’s Predictive Vulnerability Management platform helps solve this problem by automating the discovery, research for remediation, and accurate prioritization of vulnerabilities. This leads to real risk reduction on enterprise networks. This picks up security where vulnerability scanners leave off.
DeepSurface automatically collects information on user permissions and activity, host configurations, and the location of sensitive data. Then it creates a detailed threat model to map all exploitation pathways through a network.
Lastly, it computes the risk of each vulnerability and risk pathway to critical assets based on potential impact.

This will arm cyber-security teams with actionable intelligence and the contextual analysis to measure and prioritize risk. Teams can then focus on spending their time where they can reduce the most risk.
“With essential information stored on networks and the cloud, companies must patch the vulnerabilities most dangerous to them promptly before they cost company damage to their brand and revenue,” said DeepSurface CEO James Dirksen. “With Deep Surface’s unique mapping, wayfinding capabilities and actionable intelligence, security teams are finally able to attack the most dangerous vulnerabilities first with precision allowing teams to optimize the time spent on the areas of greatest risk.”
Robert Pease, Managing Director of Cascade Seed Fund, said “Despite the large investments many companies are making in risk management solutions, choosing which vulnerabilities to address first remains a stubbornly manual and imprecise process. As more and more companies look to improve their risk reduction systems, automation is a natural next step. We found that DeepSurface has built a compelling solution for predictive vulnerability management and is excited to see where this investment takes them.”
Diane Fraiman, Managing Director Voyager Capital, said “Finally a vulnerability tool that will identify exactly what to fix and the patch to deploy in priority of risk to the enterprise. This is hard to do and positions DeepSurface in a great position to gain market leadership. Voyager Capital is excited to be part of this growth opportunity.”
