Apple’s First Public Beta Builds for iOS16 is Finally Out. Here’s how to install it!
In a series of first, globally popular smartphone maker Apple’s first public beta builds for iOS 16 is finally here. The beta builds of this year’s iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS and HomePod software updates are released to the public today. The release comes about a month after the tech giant announced all of the new updates at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).
Apple’s First Public Betas Builds for iOS 16
On 11 July 2022, tech giant Apple announced the first beta builds of 2022’s iOS, macOS, watchOS, tvOS, and HomePod software updates to the public. The new features of iOS 16 will include a redesigned Lock Screen with support for widgets and additional customization, the ability to edit or delete iMessages, and an Apple Pay Later installment plan, among a slew of other features. Users who are interested can sign in using their Apple ID and download special software profiles for supported devices. Upon signing in, it will further allow their devices to download and install the new betas through a Software update.
Apple’s public betas are somewhat more battle-tested than the early developer betas released around WWDC. Since the first public beta builds and the third developer beta build are nearly identical in this instance, Apple has had some opportunities to fix bugs, refine functionality, and address developer input. The final versions of the software we receive in the fall will typically resemble these public beta variants quite closely, albeit with fewer issues (and, occasionally, a stripped-out feature or two that is added back to the OS in the winter or spring).
Enjoy the new features (with caution)
Using this, you can try out new features. Some of these are a customizable lock screen with widgets, granular controls for different Focus, and an improved messaging experience — for both green and blue bubbles — on your iPhone.
Beta testers can also download the pre-release versions of iPadOS 16, which includes a revamped multitasking interface and changing the display’s pixel density, and watchOS 9 with improved arterial fibrillation detection and detailed sleep tracking.
However, warnings are still necessary before installing any beta software. In case something goes wrong during the installation process, make sure you have recent device backups, especially backups of any vitally important files you can’t afford to lose. Additionally, you should refrain from installing betas on devices that you often use; instead, think about utilizing an older backup device or a laptop that you use less frequently than your desktop.
Moreover, downgrading will erase all of the device’s user data and preferences. If for any reason you decide you’d like to roll your device back to a prior version of the software, Apple describes the process for restoring iPhones, iPads, Macs, and HomePods here. Some products, including the Apple Watch and the majority of Apple TV models, are also incompatible with this approach.
It takes hardware that can run the new OS versions to run the betas. The prerequisites for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura have all been discussed previously. A Series 4 or later is required for r WatchOS 9, and a fourth-generation Apple TV (also known as the Apple TV HD) or later is required for tvOS 16.
