Twitter Adds New Voice Tweeting Feature For Testing On IOS Platform

Twitter Inc is an American microblogging and social networking service. On Wednesday, the company said that they are testing a new feature that will allow users to tweet using their voice. The feature will capture audio of about 140 seconds for a single tweet. However, currently, the feature will only be available to a limited number of users on the iOS platform. In the weeks to come, they will be rolling out the feature to other iOS users as well, Twitter said in a blog post.

The United States-based company said its users will be able to create a voice tweet through a new wavelength icon on the Tweet composer screen. In recent times, many social media companies including Twitter have come under scrutiny and pressure to curb content such as harassment, abuse, and misinformation.

In its blog post, the company has said “There’s a lot that can be justified unsaid or uninterpreted using text, so we hope voice Tweeting will create a more human experience for listeners and storytellers alike.”

“Whether it’s #storytime about your encounter with wild geese in your neighborhood, a journalist sharing breaking news or a first-hand account from a protest, we hope voice Tweeting gives you the ability to share your perspectives quickly and easily with your voice.” the company has further written un the post.

Aly Pavela, Twitter spokeswoman, “We are working to incorporate additional monitoring systems ahead of bringing this to everyone.” She further added, “We’ll review any reported voice tweets in line with our rules, and take action, including labeling, as needed.”

Now, along with adding labels to content that contains manipulated or synthetic media, the company has also started adding fact-checking labels. Last month, Recently, Twitter added a warning label to a tweet by Trump about Minneapolis protests.

Lastly, the company has said, “We can’t wait to see how people will use this to make their voices heard and add to the public conversation.”
