Debunked: AirPods Pro 2 won’t come with these latest features!
In the past few months, speculations around AirPods Pro featuring surprising health-oriented features have been on the rise. However, the latest rumors around the most-anticipated Apple gadgets reveal that the upgrade will not be coming in 2022 upgrade.
Most Anticipated Features of AirPods Pro 2
Apple is anticipated to launch a new pair of AirPods Pro earbuds in 2022 and the anticipation around its release and probable specs has been on the rise. In June 2022, a rumor from 52Audio said that the AirPods Pro 2 would be able to measure heart rate and body temperature from
within the year. That same report said the AirPods Pro 2 would feature USB-C, an updated H1 chip, and Find My functionality.
According to various leaks and tips from analysts and other sources of rumor, these AirPods Pro 2 were expected to come with a built-in heart rate sensor and a body temperature sensor, as was reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously. For those who are unaware, the first and the only AirPods Pro earbuds were launched in 2019. In the recent Power On newsletter, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had also hinted earlier that the second generation AirPods Pro earbuds will come with a body temperature sensor.
In addition to the sensors, the earbuds were also expected to come with features like improved audio quality, noise-cancellation as well as Spatial Audio. Several reports circulating around that time hinted that the upcoming AirPods Pro 2 will be powered by the new System-in-Package (SIP) for the H1 chip with support for improved adaptive noise cancellation, EQ, Spatial Audio including Audio Sharing feature.
In terms of design, the AirPods were likely to come with an even more compact design, which meant ditching the stem and a new charging case. Additionally, the AirPod Pro was expected to come with support for lossless playback. Last but not least, Gurman also suggested that Apple Watch Series 8 will also come with a built-in body temperature sensor that will alert users if it detects fever. Although it cannot tell the precise temperature, it will be able to detect the temperature rise.
Debunking the Upgrades
Unfortunately, the above sensor-oriented features will not be coming in the 2022 upgrade. It was Gurman who took down his latest ‘Power on Newsletter’ to burst the bubble. In his latest edition, he wrote:
“Over the past few months, there have been rumors about this year’s model gaining the ability to determine a wearer’s heart rate or body temperature. I’m told that neither feature is likely to arrive in the 2022 upgrade.” He further added that both features have been explored within Apple and could arrive someday.
The new second-generation AirPods Pro won’t feature a built-in heart rate and body temperature sensor. The report also said that the AirPods Pro 2 would feature USB-C, an updated H1 chip, and Apple’s handy ‘Find My AirPods’ functionality. It is highly unclear which of these will feature in the final product that is expected to be announced later in 2022.
Apple has not given the AirPods Pro any updates since its launch in 2019 other than a new MagSafe charging case last fall. Apple is widely expected to announce a new version of the AirPods Pro later this year, possibly around the time it launches the iPhone 14 and new Apple Watch models this fall.
